Queer Asian World Cinema (Online & In Person!)

WATCH FILMS

Queer Asian World Cinema

For the first-time ever in the history of our International Queer Women of Color Film Festival, QWOCMAP has curated a special Satellite Screening to celebrate API Heritage Month!

ABOUT THE FILMS

From the burgeoning seeds of love and solidarity to the verdant roots of family, four intimate, tender, and moving films illuminate how queer communities in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines persist and flourish with radiant hope.

It’s a time capsule of queerness situated within urban modern Vietnam, as queer women encounter each other in passing. It’s the specific queer experience of what happens to a young Catholic schoolgirl with a crush on a nun in the rural Philippines where there is no GSA network. It’s the conflict between a middle-class Bangladeshi father and his outspoken, independent daughter, as it flushes out patriarchy, class, and gendered expectations. It’s the coming of age for a queer Vietnamese teenage girl coming out to her mother amidst tears and eventual calm.

All films are subtitled for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and audio described for Blind and Low Vision communities.

Online Screening

Friday, May 23 – Sunday, June 1, catch the full lineup of Queer Asian World Cinema online.

In-Person Screening

Saturday, May 31, join QWOCMAP and CCC for the screening and a thoughtful post-screening conversation about the ways that we celebrate our queer identities and navigate within an Asian cultural context.
