QTAPI Week celebrates this year theme as Tapestry. This beautifully highlights the rich interconnectedness and resilience of our queer and transgender Asian and Pacific Islander communities, emphasizing how our diverse stories, identities, and experiences weave together to form a vibrant and unified fabric. In celebrating the many events during QTAPI Week, it provides for visibility, advocacy, and cultural affirmation. It acknowledges the unique challenges faced by QTAPI individuals while also honoring the strength, diversity, and solidarity that define our community. By framing this week around the "Tapestry" metaphor, we recognize that each thread—each individual story—contributes to the larger narrative of inclusivity, resilience, and hope that is essential to San Francisco’s vibrant identity.

First held between May 22-29, of 2021, Queer and Trans Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Week was proclaimed in San Francisco by the Board of Supervisors during a time of increasing anti-Asian hate in the SF Bay Area. The week serves as a metaphorical bridge between API Heritage month in May and Pride Month in June, showing that our identities are interconnected, and can have compounding impacts. The first week consisted of a series of events, both in-person and online, organized through participating organizations in the Bay Area QTAPI Coalition.
